Android™ Users Conned By Fake Security App

April 16, 2014  Security Suite

Top paid Android® app Virus Shield reportedly swindled Google Play™ Store shoppers into paying $3.99 for an app that merely changes an “X” on an image of a shield to a “√”. Claiming to protect phones from spyware and malware, Virus Shield quickly rose to the number one spot of the “Top New Paid Android Apps” list in April, until reports began surfacing that it provided no anti-virus protection at all. Reportedly, Virus Shield is no longer available on the Android™ market. Google Play™ Store currently has nothing more than basic filtering in place to verify apps validity before they are available to shoppers.
