Internet is threatened by batch SQL injection attacks

June 09, 2009  Security Suite

Experts published information about a successful batch attack on approximately 40,000 web servers that became a target of a SQL injection attack. The attackers managed to insert a javascript into the source code of attacked websites that resulted in redirection to the attacker's website. One of the major victims was a Google Analytics website. After a successful login to the service, all users' accounts on Google have been compromised, including Gmail. The Web itself further explores the user´s browser and estimates its vulnerability. Then it uses security leaks to install malware or pursues another type of attack - it displays a warning about false infection and offers a download of so called rogue antispyware. Controlled computers become a part of a spam network, or victims of identity theft.
