Is There a Botnet Threat for Smartphones?

At the SchmooCon conference, an idea was presented that a botnet centrum could control individual "zombie phones" over SMS. A compromised phone can use SMS for initial communication and to deliver the information about the phone. If communication is established, data can then be harvested or further attacks coordinated. Basic advice here is to make sure users are aware of non-standard behavior of their mobile device (especially the arrival of strange or suspicious SMS, or the automatic launch of mobile networks) and appropriately react to this situation, or seek professional help.
