Kido aka Conficker is making money

April 15, 2009  Malware News

The latest version of the Kido worm has significantly changed from its previous versions. Now, it basically behaves as a worm and tries to spread to other computers. Initial analysis indicates that the worm has been created with an expiration so its activity should end at the beginning of May 2009. Kido not only installs its own updates on infected computers, but also downloads two new files. One of them is a rogue antispyware SpywareProtect2009 that offers users to remove "found viruses" for a fee of $49.95. The second file is a classic email worm from the Iksmas family that tries to steal data and spread spam.
