Hackers use Twitter to control botnets

August 28, 2009  Malware News

The standard means to control a botnet are with so called IRC channels. Recently it´s been discovered that attackers also use this to abuse social networks, specifically Twitter. Using IRC channels abuses classic RSS systems to update single computers in a botnet. So far, Twitter blocked only one user account called “Upd4t3” but deeper analysis shows that it was not the only account that was abused by attackers in this way.
