Is your computer part of a botnet?

A recent study by computer security experts reported that an unprotected computer with an earlier version of Windows XP and is connected to the Internet, gets infected within 30 seconds after installation and becomes a part of a so called botnet. A botnet is a network of computers that various software robots or bots use to automatically send spam or seek vulnerable spots for their next attacks. They´re also often used or hired to break tough passwords. Networks with upwards of 500,000 such PC zombies stand behind the biggest virtual attacks in the world.

New Trojan Targets Vulnerable Microsoft Office® Users

Opening email attachments just got a bit more risky, especially for Microsoft Office® users working in the energy sector. Security software company Symantec® reports a new malware program named Trojan.Laziok arrives in emails and exploits a vulnerability in Microsoft Office® that actually should have been patched by users back in April 2012.
