New Point-of-Sale Trojan Steals Credit Card Data

A new point-of-sale (PoS) Trojan, aptly named PoSeidon by researchers from the Cisco's Security Solutions team who discovered the malware, scans the RAM of PoS terminals looking for credit card numbers and keystrokes in order to steal the information. Reportedly consisting of three basic components, PoSeidon invades with a keylogger that records keystrokes; a loader that maintains the malware across system reboots; and a memory scraper that searches for unencrypted strings of credit card data. Unique to PoSeidon is that it communicates directly with external services, keeping itself updated with the latest information.

Security software company Symantec® reports a new malware program named Trojan.Laziok arrives in emails and exploits a vulnerability in Microsoft Office® that actually should have been patched by users back in April 2012.
