China Reels from its Largest DoS Attack

A denial-of-service (DoS) attack on China’s domain extension .cn at the end of August caused about 1/3 of the country’s websites to go temporarily offline. An overwhelming amount of Internet service requests came in at approximately 2 a.m. Chinese time on August 25th with a second round at 4 a.m., causing some websites registered to the domain to fail. Users faced seriously sluggish responses times for hours following the attacks. Noted as the largest DoS attack to ever hit China, its source still has not been identified.

New Trojan Targets Vulnerable Microsoft Office® Users

Opening email attachments just got a bit more risky, especially for Microsoft Office® users working in the energy sector. Security software company Symantec® reports a new malware program named Trojan.Laziok arrives in emails and exploits a vulnerability in Microsoft Office® that actually should have been patched by users back in April 2012.
