Phishing Attack on Twitter social network

June 03, 2009  Malware News

After recent Facebook attacks, a new wave of attacks focused on another social network - Twitter. Attackers setup a new account that sends messages containing a link to a false login page tvviter.com. If an unsuspecting user logs in, his login information is acquired and there is further abuse of his account to spread and acquire more accounts. The network of accounts is then used to send spam which is 10 times more efficient than spam sent by email as people tend to click on links from their friends more than from an unknown address. Follow these rules to help prevent and protect against phishing attacks: check the domain when you're logging in, log in only at manually inserted addresses or addresses from your own bookmarks in the browser.
