Chinese Hackers Trapped by Decoy

A Chinese hacking group reportedly linked to the Chinese army was caught breaking into a fake water control system set up for a U.S. municipality. The decoy target, also known as a “honeypot”, was created by a security firm researcher to lure hackers into an attack. This particular attack used malware and other identifying characteristics that reportedly tie it to a group called APT1 or Comment Crew, which is believed to be part of the Chinese army. Security experts warn real utilities may already be compromised.
