Internet Explorer® 8 Remains Open to Attack Without Patch

A vulnerability in Internet Explorer® (IE) 8 could allow a remote attacker to gain the user rights of the current user, which could be extremely dangerous if the user has administrative rights. An attack could occur if an IE 8 user visits a website designed to exploit the flaw. Microsoft® reports it is working on a patch, but there is no set release date.  This vulnerability was reported to Microsoft® in October by a security research group within Hewlett-Packard® called the Zero Day Initiative (ZDI).

Opening email attachments just got a bit more risky, especially for Microsoft Office® users working in the energy sector. Security software company Symantec® reports a new malware program named Trojan.Laziok arrives in emails and exploits a vulnerability in Microsoft Office® that actually should have been patched by users back in April 2012.
