Millions of Bitcoins Stolen by Hackers

Hackers stole approximately $5 million in bitcoins after breaking into the European bitcoin exchange Bitstamp® during the first weekend in January. ComputerWorld® reported that Bitstamp’s operational hot wallets were the target. Hot wallets provide customers with an instant exchange of bitcoins over the Internet. According to Bitstamp®, customers’ bitcoins remain safe and their bitcoin balances will be honored in full. Law enforcement officials are investigating.
