Rise of zombie PC in botnets

May 19, 2009  Malware News

Security threat experts published alarming news about the rising number of zombie PCs in botnets. So far this year, the cyber attackers have gained control of nearly 10 million IP addresses over last year - that's an increase of 50%. The main contributors to this situation are computers in the USA, China and a significant increase in government networks in Russia. Generally speaking, the goal of this enormous expansion is to renew spammer bases that were weakened last year because of the server cut-offs at the McColo company, reported as a major source of the spam. Currently, the volume of spam has already regained almost 75% of its pre-cut-off state.
