Stagefright - probably the most dangerous threat to smartphones right now

August 25, 2015  Security Suite

Can you imagine a single received MMS could allow hackers to access all your data on your phone? Meet Stagegright, the exploit that is a threat for 950 million smartphones with Android. Vulnerability like this is very dangerous because it does not require any action by the victim - all the hacker needs to compromise your smarthphone is your phone number.
Fortunately, there are some solutions available to protect your smartphone from this threat. If you have an Android system of version 4.0 and above you can fix it in your text messaging settings - open the settings and uncheck the Auto-Retrieve option. There are also other applications available for checking your vulnerability. If you have the Android operating system of version 2.0 to 4.0 you will have to wait for the operating system upgrade. Since there are so many different phones and carriers, this will be rolling out over time, rather than all at once like Apple’s iPhone.
