What will the year 2011 bring in the area of computer threats?

January 04, 2011  Malware News

What will the year 2011 bring in the area of computer threats? Most experts agree that the most frequent target of attacks will once again be social networks. The most common issues will be misuse of services that simplify and shorten links for improved sharing and at the same time mask the target address. Thanks to the large increase in “Smartphone” users, we will also see a massive increase of malware for these devices. Amongst others, towards the end of 2010 we were able to see an increased focus on these devices by Botnet operators (the most well-known being the Zeus botnet). There will be an increase in reports of even more sophisticated APT-type attacks (Advanced Persistant Threat) on private companies of all sizes as well as public sectors, such as to Iran’s energy industry last year. The public will be attacked very often by mass fraud during the holidays or other significant events where people generally communicate through social networks and such or there is an increased use of electronic payment gateways and so on.
