Windows® Crash Reports Provides Easy Access to Unencrypted Data

Windows® crash reports are meant to provide information about why an error occurred so it can be examined and fixed. However, Windows® developers may not be the only ones eyeing up this data sent over standard HTTP connections. The German news magazine Der Spiegel reports the National Security Agency (NSA) collects Windows® crash reports on targeted PCs. Since the information is unencrypted and provides a wealth of information on installed software, operating systems, and vulnerabilities, it is easy for surveillance and spyware operatives to extract targeted network data.
