How Do I Change the Play Speed in Media Player

Windows® Media Player is a multimedia application that can be used to play most media, including video and audio files, as well as to view images. Since Windows® Media Player is a component of Microsoft Windows®, if you install this operating system, Windows® Media Player will be set as the default media player. Windows® Media Player offers many functions and customization tools, including the ability to download media files from the Internet. This article contains information about how to change the speed at which the Windows® Media Player plays video.  This feature may be useful if you wish to focus on certain details in a movie or a clip.

Instructions:

  1. Open the video file with the Windows® Media Player application.
  2. Right-click on the blank area next to the bottom control bar (where the play, pause, stop and other buttons are located).
  3. From the menu, choose “View > Enhancements > Play Speed Settings” (in the current version of the player, the menu sequence may include only “Enhancements > Play Speed Settings”).
  4. In the bar displayed in the main window, you can change the playback speed by dragging the slider to the left to slowdown the playback speed and to the right to speed it up.

Tips and Tricks:

  • To change to the playback speed setting in the latest version of the Windows® Media Player, right-click on the blank area next to the bottom control bar (where the play, pause, stop and other buttons are located) and choose the “Help > Check for updates...” option.
