How Do I Disable Aero® in Windows® 7

October 05, 2011

Microsoft Windows® 7 is a very popular operating system and many people like its modernized, glass 3D interface. With a graphical user interface, changes are made, and the user no longer works with the sharp edges and the well-known gray or blue colors in Windows®. Themes in Windows® 7 are based on the Windows Aero® engine, and smooth curves with transparent ribbons are typical for this desktop theme. However, what do you do if you feel that this feature is slowing down your computer? You can switch it off. Below, you can read several steps on how to disable Microsoft Windows Aero® and better customize your Windows® themes.

Instructions:

  1. Right-click on the desktop and choose the “Personalization" option.
  2. In the list of themes, scroll down to the “Basic and High Contrast Themes” selection.
  3. Choose one of the themes, typically, people choose the “Windows Classic” for a simulation-Windows® XP environment.
  4. Close the “Personalization” window.
