Browser Cookies May Be Used By More Than Just Advertisers

Cookies enabled by browsers may not only bring targeted advertising to online searches, but also may be used by the National Security Agency (NSA) to track specific suspects, reports The Washington Post®.

Citing internal documents provided by NSA subcontractor Edward Snowden, the Post reports browser cookies enable tracking techniques that may assist the NSA in identifying surveillance targets. How the NSA gets access to a browser’s cookie information remains unknown, as does any details on specific surveillance operations.
